SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna : Category-I and Schedule –‘A’ CPSE under administrative control of Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, was incorporated on May 24, 1988 as a joint venture of the Government of India (GOI) and the Government of Himachal Pradesh (GOHP) (equity participation in the ratio of 75:25) to plan, investigate, organize, execute, operate and maintain Hydro-electric power projects in the Satluj river basin in the state of Himachal Pradesh, and at any other place.
Govt. of India through an Initial Public Offer (IPO) of SJVN in the month of May, 2010, offered 10.03% of its share to the public and financial institutions and present equity share holding of GoI, GoHP and public is 64.46 %, 25.51 % and 10.03 % respectively. The present authorized share capital of SJVN is Rs 7000 Crore.
The 1500 MW, Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station NJHPS (the largest underground hydro - electric power project) was the first project executed by SJVN, all units of which were commissioned by May 18, 2004. With commissioning of this Project, a new chapter in the history of the development of hydro-electric power in the country was added. SJVN has also set a bench mark by commissioning all the units within a span of six month.
Originally named Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation Ltd.
Renamed a Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited and subsequently name changed to SJVN Limited. The present authorized share capital of SJVN is Rs 7000 Crore and issued, subscribed and fully paid-up capital is Rs. 4136.63 crores.
