Loading ...Before the introduction of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), all the autonomous law schools in India use to conduct their own separate entrance tests, requiring the candidates to prepare and appear separately for each of these tests.
In 2008 CLAT was conducted for the first time on 11th of May 2008 by NLSIU-Bangalore, with a total number of 1037 seats from seven National law schools were offered to be filled by this test. Since then each year CLAT is conducted by National law Universities in the order of their establishment.
So far there are 17 National Law Universities in India, the first of which is the National Law School of India University Bangalore, which admitted its first batch of students in 1987. Out of this seventeen National law schools, the National Law University, Delhi conducts its own separate entrance test know as All India Law Entrance Test (AILET).
The Sixteen NLUs offer a five-year integrated under-graduate law courses leading to the award of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.), B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), B.S.W. LL.B. (Hons.), B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) degrees.
