David Desharnais chipped in a goal and an assist for the Canadiens, who stopped a two-game home skid and won for only the second time in their last five overall. P.K. Subban, Dale Weise and Alex Galchenyuk also scored in the victory, while Andrei Markov picked up three assists. Montreal again played without All-Star goaltender Carey Price, who is considered day-to-day with an upper body injury he sustained Wednesday in a win against Columbus. Dustin Tokarski, starting his second straight game in place of Price, made 27 saves. John Tavares and Kyle Okposo each notched a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who were coming off Fridays 6-3 win over Pittsburgh and had a four-game win streak stopped. Okposo scored four goals against the Penguins. New York goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped just 27 shots and was pulled late in the third period. The Canadiens went on the power play just 54 seconds into the game when Ryan Strome took a tripping penalty and cashed just over a minute later when Subban ripped a one-timer home from the left circle for his 10th goal. Montreal scored even earlier in the second period for a 2-0 lead, as Weise found the back of the net just 10 seconds after the opening faceoff. The Islanders killed off a Travis Hamonic hooking penalty midway through the second, then scored 21 seconds after the minor ended when Okposo snapped a shot home from the slot for his 14th goal. Montreal went back on the power play a few minutes later and converted just six seconds into the advantage when Plekanec fired a shot from just above the right circle past a screened Halak for a 3-1 game. The Islanders countered just over two minutes later when Nikolay Kulemin took a drop pass from Brock Nelson in the slot, skated into the right circle and slipped a shot off the far post into the net for his ninth goal. Montreal, though, again scored early in the third period. Brendan Gallaghers shot from the slot was blocked in front and went directly into the right circle for Galchenyuk, who flipped one through Halak at 52 seconds. Desharnais scored with 8:44 left, stealing the puck at center ice and beating Halak with a blast from the right circle, then Plekanec scored again just 2 1/2 minutes later on a 2-on-1 to make it 6-2. Halak went to the bench in favor of Chad Johnson and the Islanders clawed back with goals from Anders Lee and Tavares to make it close. Robert Jones Jersey Retro . LOUIS -- When Braves second baseman Tyler Pastornicky backpedaled into shallow right field to catch the popup and Jason Heyward didnt arrive fast enough to take charge, Kolten Wong got the green light.CHICAGO -- Chicago Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose is out indefinitely because of torn cartilage in his right knee that will require surgery, the team said Saturday. The former MVP has a medial meniscus tear. The timetable for his return was not immediately clear. Rose had an MRI in Los Angeles on Saturday after he was injured the previous night at Portland. The three-time All-Star sat out last season recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Now, its his other knee thats injured. The injury occurred in the third quarter against the Trail Blazers. Rose lost his footing while trying to change direction to get back on defence when Nicolas Batum stole a pass from Joakim Noah and started the other way. Rose limped across the court and couldnt put any weight on his knee. After the Blazers scored, he came out of the game during a timeout. It didnt appear there was any contact on the play. Rose was unable to return and was on crutches afterward. He will not accompany the Bulls for the remaining four games on their six-game trip. Even though the injury isnt as serious as a torn ACL, losing Rose for any chunk of time is obviously a huge blow for a team expecting to challenge LeBron James and the Miami Heat for supremacy in the Eastern Conference with its franchise player back. The Bulls (6-5) were even eyeing a championship run for the first time since the Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen era. Now, theres a big cloud hanging over the franchise. And once again, it centres onn Rose.
Joe Francis Jersey Retro. The latest injury rekindled memories of the 2012 playoff opener against Philadelphia, when he crumpled to the court near the end of the game with a torn ACL in his left knee. That sent the top-seeded Bulls toward a first-round exit and put them in a holding pattern last season while their star recuperated. Many thought he would return at some point, particularly after he started practicing without restrictions. Instead, his recovery took on almost a circus-like feel. Fans saw him shooting and dunking before games last season and wondered why he wasnt playing. Meanwhile, the Bulls fought injuries and illnesses on the way to 45 wins and a first-round playoff victory over Brooklyn before falling to Miami. Along the way, his image took a hit. Adidas released videos documenting his progress, but Rose mostly stayed in the background, saying little about his recovery. That changed midway through the season. There was also speculation of a rift with the organization after older brother Reggie Rose ripped management for standing pat at the trade deadline, but Derrick Rose denied that. All those issues faded into the background with Rose back this season. He had insisted he was returning better than ever, had no doubts he would regain his MVP form, but he was off to an up-and-down start after a dominant preseason. A sore hamstring caused him to miss a game, and he is shooting just 35.4 per cent. He was looking better the past two games, with 19 points in a loss at Denver and 20 against Portland. ' ' '
