Overview
- It is a rumor, but Jeff Gertsmann was the person who talked about it, and PSO2 Meseta he's not some random. Granted, he's not super powerful in the gambling scene, but he is very much a seasoned reporter and game reviewer, even though he is not a journalist; he's a great deal of connections. Not long after the announcement of PSO2 to the west back in 2012, alot of downsizing happened for its western branches of SEGA, especially SEGA of America. For a while SEGA needed to concentrate only on a few key franchises at the westand it was just after SEGA of America was merged to Atlus USA in 2015 that things began to get better.
There was no way they could have managed a massive online game like PSO2 during those years, and even following the merge, they were occupied with not only localizing more games from more franchises they could not in the years before, but also they had been busy with enhancing their localization process so the western discharges could be closer to the JP releases. Even now in 2020 the current SEGA of America/Atlus USA would not have been able to handle the whole PSO2 project independently (as we can see by the partnership between SEGA and Microsoft with MS hosting the servers and community along with service being outsourced to ESTSoft).
"We noticed a great deal of players say they have been waiting eight long years for this release. [laughs] We were really happy about that." That laugh be a nervous (oops. Sorry) one rather than a mocking one. It is at the end of a question about how popular that the beta was. It reads as"lots more individuals played beta than anticipated, and told us they had been waiting eight long years for this - so people were happy at how hot it had been" instead of"we were happy folks were awaiting eight years" Honestly I am just happy the game is out, it is doing well, we're actually getting content upgrades and such.
So even if they didn't care we seem to be in an ok spot right now and that is what is critical. Just continue playing and supporting the game if you like it and Sega will see that they have a good enough player base here to not bungle things later on. What a non response for the why the 8 year wait query. Its apparent they lost interest long ago and only changed their mind with this release because of Microsoft practically funding it. All what has been said here makes really a lot of sense in retrospect. The clunky translation due to the team not having much control on it, and the huge wait for the EN version. For all those of you who do not remember, PS as a series has had some really DOGSHIT customer service in the west, all the way back to PSO. Sega as a business has an extreme tendency toward the crippling fear of cheap Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta earning cash. So they never attempt things unless they see an immediate gain to them in some capacity (See: POS devices in reaction to their incoming downfall, the quarterly surveys, etc.. )
