Description :
I started playing a few weeks ago through our live stream for MMORPG with Joseph Bradford, Managing Editor, and our buddy. They both are playing Witches, but since I love bows, I picked the Ranger.I had no clue what I was doing. Getting to Lioneye's Watch was simple enough, but once I got there, what seemed so overwhelming. This was compounded after that I took a glance at the abilities tree. What does Strength do? What does Dexterity do? What does Intelligence do? I had no idea. I didn't know how skills functioned. I didn't understand how armor worked. Nothing. I reverted to type and panicked.
Luckily, Bradford clarified in Path of Exile, skills aren't handled like they're in other ARPGs or even RPGs for that matter. Skills are awarded with red, green, and blue stones corresponding with abilities geared towards dexterity, strength, and intellect, through stone. These gems slotted in their slots. And those skill gems can be encouraged, tweaked, or amplified with support gems. These abilities can then level up with you personally. I have played much more because this initial flow, so today I'm starting to get the feel for how to build my personality.
At present, I'm focusing on building a Ice Shot Ranger. In addition, I have Dash outfitted as a movement skill, and also a Totem ability for some good AOE if needed. However, this has been a fantastic learning process for me, as every hour I perform, I know more and more. I am absolutely loving the Ice Shot build I have going. I have specced my passives to prioritize increasing bow damage and my passion rate. Though to be fair, I would love for some expert people here to have a peek at my skills below and allow me to know if I'm on the right path. In a nutshell, I want to only deal a great deal of damage and proceed fast.
I'm loving all about Path of Exile at the moment. I love the level layout. I really like how dark everything looks from a visual design perspective. You have the impression that the world is this distraught place filled with nastiness. I really like the battle. Obviously, I suspect that if I didn't like the battle, I wouldn't really like Path of Exile given how central battle is to the core gameplay. It is so versatile and Grinding Gears Games does a phenomenal job keeping the pressure on you if the situation calls for it, for example boss battles and Sister Cassia's Purification Pumps.
I never felt that one course was better than another when we were playing co-op, which we genuinely needed to work together to take out more difficult enemies. I really feel like I could truly build my character given the continuous stream of loot. Even though much of it's seller trash, a nice chunk of it is not. This could change as I progress, but right now in the first game, I feel like I can keep tweaking my personality with the generous loot drops. Along with also the Purification Pumps are absolutely worth, as I've discovered, because of the great gear they tend to drop. I have learned to prioritize people in zones.
