  • Description : According to information given exclusively to PC Gamer, Descent will reward players who have already sped through the core Path of Exile game a few times with a brand new setting. In Descent, you cannot return to town or use waypoints or portals to travel. A completely solo experience, Descent will feature its own economy of high-powered loot and monsters that exist only for the duration of the league. At the end of the event, all characters and items are destroyed. It's a bold move from Path of Exile, and it runs contrary to the traditional model of clicky-click-click action RPG games. Because the focus in Descent is not on building a character or collecting gold or items, developer Grinding Gear has designed Descent to be more like a traditional single-player RPG: explore a new world and experiment with new builds to survive the harrowing landscape. Descent events will last an hour each and are the Signature Event for season three. About 50 of them will take place over six weeks beginning on June 29. Check out Path of Exile's website for a full schedule, to be posted next week. PC Gamer Newsletter Sign up to get the best content of the week, and great gaming deals, as picked by the editors. Now, Funcom has released the game's system requirements ahead of its January 31 Early Access launch. Both ends of the spectrum—minimum and Ultra-level recommended—seem pretty reasonable, which suggests both hulking Hyborian systems and dehydrated desert-dwelling ones will fare well with a wee bit of tinkering. Here's what you need, according to Funcom: Conan the librarian OS: Windows 7 64 Bit/Windows 8 64 Bit/Windows 10 64 BitProcessor: Intel Core i3 3.0 GHz or AMD equivalentMemory: 4 GB RAMGraphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 (2GB) or AMD equivalentDirectX: Version 11Network: Broadband Internet connectionStorage: 35 GB available space Conan the Barbarian (for running the game on Ultra settings) OS: Windows 7 64 bit/Windows 8 64 bit/Windows 10 64 bitProcessor: Intel Core i5/i7 3.0 GHz or AMD equivalentMemory: 8 GB RAMGraphics: nVidia GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD equivalentDirectX: Version 11Network: Broadband Internet connectionStorage: 35 GB available space Again, Conan Exiles is due to launch on Steam's Early Access initiative on January 31. For answers to some of the questions you may have, MMORPG.com hosted an AMA with the game's creative director Joel Bylos yesterday which is worth checking out. In a forum post yesterday (via PCGamesN ), Grinding Gear Lead Designer Chris Wilson stated the deluge crashed Exile's account system and servers over the weekend, but the team quickly brought everything back online today with stability and bug fixes. Overview

  • "We're getting absolutely crushed under the number of players trying out Path of Exile, and this has manifested as a server crash that has been occurring hourly today," Wilson wrote previously. "For those interested, player concurrency hit 69,850 players before it was high enough to take down the realm POE currency trade ."

Grinding Gear also fixed a few pesky login bugs, including a rare and strange issue where players somehow could log into accounts owned by other players as the servers shuddered beneath the load. To keep character info stable, the studio simply switched off Exile's servers until it whipped up a fix.

The high turnout probably has something to do with the satisfying results of clicking a zombie's head into paste for shinies or the web-like skill tree that ought to win some sort of award for its sheer size.

Never let it said that violence can't be for a good cause. Starting this Saturday, Path of Exile will offer its players the chance to participate in a new Ambush/Invasion race event. So far, so biffy-'n-bashy. The difference is that this particular slaughterfest is all in the name of charity. Throughout the event, an exclusive new helmet skin will be made available for purchase, and 100% of its proceeds will be donated to Child's Play.

As an incentive to take part, a random draw will award prizes from the pool of players who reach the following ranks:

Level 15: 100x Stash Tab Bundles

Level 20: 100x Premium Stash Tab Bundles

    Level 25: 10x Razer Mice

    Level 30: 5x Razer Keyboards

    Level 35: 5x NVIDIA High-performance Graphics Cards

Level 50: 10x Sets of all Seraph Microtransactions (Armour pieces, Wings, Weapon Effect and Footprint Effect)

Level 65: 5x Sets of Signed Prints of Original Early Concept Art

Level 85: 1x One hour private Q&A on Skype with Chris, Jonathan and Erik

Players can participate in multiple tiers, so you won't have to deliberately stop at level 35 just to be in with a chance of the graphic's card.

According to the announcement post , "this event has the properties of both the Ambush and (recently rebalanced) Invasion challenge leagues. That means that you'll encounter enchantable Strongboxes, guest monsters and Invasion bosses as you compete. It's parented to the Invasion league, so you'll be able to continue your character in that league once the race ends." It's also a hardcore event, meaning dead characters will be eliminated.

The Child's Play charity event begins May 10, and will run until May 24th.

Not tried Path of Exile? You should. It's free, and ARPG fan Tom Senior was enchanted by its giant board of levelling options.
